Holly Mackay's Biography

Holly Mackay has worked in the investment industry for over 25 years, following a degree in Modern Languages from Oxford University. She held senior roles at Aviva, Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and Santander across multiple markets before founding her first business, Platforum, in 2008. After selling it to a media group and exiting in 2014, she launched Boring Money in 2015.

The company’s award‑winning consumer website has become the UK’s largest investment‑specific comparison platform, providing real‑time insight into consumer behaviours, preferences and sentiment. Holly is widely recognised as a champion for consumers; her weekly blog, podcasts, webinars and broader content help “normal people make better choices.” Her work tackling the Gender Investment Gap and the Advice Gap earned her Investment Week’s Investment Woman of the Year award for two consecutive years, and in 2025 she won Woman of the Year – Investment, and Marketing Influencer of the Year at Professional Adviser’s Women in Financial Advice Awards.

A regular conference speaker and well-known media commentator, Holly appears frequently on the BBC, ITV and Sky News, and contributes columns to national newspapers and financial publications. She recently appeared on The Martin Lewis Money Show on their first investment-focused episode. Holly is incredibly relatable, tackling dense topics with wit, using language people actually understand. Whether it is as a conference chair to asking the hard questions in a fireside chat, or giving a keynote talk, Holly’s approach is fearless, funny and firmly evidence based.
