Jeremy Warner's Biography

Jeremy Warner is one of Britain’s foremost financial, economic and business journalists with more than forty years of experience in reporting and commentating on business and economic affairs.

A serial winner of awards, he writes widely over a range of subjects from financial markets to corporate affairs, the domestic and international economy. Currently a columnist and an Assistant Editor at the Daily Telegraph, he is also the newspaper’s chief economics and business commentator.

Prior to joining the Daily Telegraph, he was for many years business and city editor of The Independent and The Independent on Sunday, and was a founding member of the editorial team when The Independent was launched in 1986. Previously he worked for The Times and The Scotsman as business correspondent.

Sixty three years of age, married with three grown-up children, Mr Warner lives in London, but travels extensively in support of his newspaper columns. He appears regularly on TV and radio, and is often invited to participate on think tank discussion panels. He also has extensive experience in chairing, moderating and speaking at corporate and trade conferences.

In the late 1980s, Jeremy became something of a cause celebre for his refusal to disclose sources in a high profile government investigation, a stand for which he was presented with a special award for “an outstanding contribution in defense of freedom of the media” by the Guild of British Newspaper Editors.

Jeremy Warner was educated at Magdalen College School in Oxford, and subsequently at University College London, where he graduated with a first class honours degree in History.

His chief areas of expertise as a speaker are the international and domestic economies, the political economy, the economics and politics of Brexit, international finance, and crisis management.
