He has written two critically acclaimed and bestselling books and has won numerous awards for his journalism. His 2024 book Material World, has been nominated as one of the Financial Times Book of the Year. Ed has written two other critically acclaimed and bestselling books “The Summit: The Biggest Battle Of The Second World War – Fought Behind Closed Doors” (Little, Brown, 2014), a riveting account of Bretton Woods. Additionally, he demystifies the subject for the layman with “50 Economics Ideas You Really Need to Know” (Quercus, 2009). His forthcoming book, Trade World: The Ties That Bound Our Past and Could Unravel Our Future (September 2026), explores how trade has shaped human history and why its future is now under threat.

Ed contributes to academia and research. He holds a governor position at the National Institute for Economic and Social Research.
