Will Tanner's Biography

Will Tanner was Deputy Director of Policy at 10 Downing Street during the first year of Theresa May’s premiership. In this role, he had oversight of all government policy areas.

Will began his career as a researcher for the UK-based, Pro-market think-tank Reform before stepping into British politics in 2014 as a civil servant policy adviser to Theresa May in her then role as Home Secretary at the Home Office.

In 2015, he was appointed as a Special Adviser covering crime, immigration, and extremism policy.

In the wake of David Cameron’s resignation in June 2016, Will followed Theresa May into 10 Downing Street where he was appointed Deputy Head of the Policy Unit.

Will resigned from this role following this year’s General Election. He now advises on a wide spectrum of government policy. He is particularly involved with innovative work on mental health and committed to using technology to tackle an increasingly prevalent issue in the U.K.
