Ming Zeng's Biography

Known as the strategist behind Jack Ma, Dr Zeng has been working closely with Jack Ma and played an important role in shaping the strategy of the Alibaba Group as it blossomed into a USD400 Billion company.

Dr. Zeng is the founding dean of Hupan School of Entrepreneurship, a private business school founded in 2014 by Jack Ma and other leading Chinese entrepreneurs, in Hangzhou.

Prior to joining Alibaba, Dr. Zeng was the Professor of Strategy at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, Beijing China from 2002 to 2006 and a faculty member at INSEAD, France prior to 2002.

Dr. Zeng is a frequent contributor to the world’s leading management journals, including Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review and California Management Review.

Dr. Zeng is also one of the most respected business thinkers globally. He is the author of Smart Business: What Alibaba’s Success Reveals about the Future of Strategy (Harvard Business Review Press, September 2018).
