Peter Bryant's Biography

The critical minerals famine will constrain every energy intensive industry as we shift to a minerals-dependent energy system that relies on copper, nickel, lithium and rare earths. Peter Bryant advises companies building supply chain strategy on the risks and implications before that deficit arrives. He addresses leadership teams and audiences across the value chain, from mining majors to manufacturers, hyperscalers and utilities facing the sharpest exposure to supply constraints in the energy expansion, as well as governments including Saudi Arabia and USA.

Peter is a sought-after keynote speaker and has spoken at the conferences that set the agenda for the global mining and energy industries, including PDAC in Toronto, IMARC in Melbourne, CERAWeek in Houston, the Edison Electric Institute Leadership Forum and the ICMM Leadership Forum in London. As the Board Chair and Managing Director of strategy advisory firm Clareo and Co-Founder and Board Chair of the Development Partner Institute, a nonprofit focused on promoting improved social, economic, and environmental outcomes for communities from resource development projects, Peter is deeply committed to driving positive change in the mining and energy sectors. Peter is also a registered lobbyist, leading the Key Minerals Forum, a Washington DC-based coalition that engages key Senate and House committees (e.g. Energy and Natural Resources and Intelligence) and key federal agencies (e.g DoE) on deeply understanding the global mining sector, working toward a coherent and competitive US approach and policy regarding critical minerals.

Peter’s strategic advisory work spans some of the world’s most significant resource and energy companies, including Anglo American, BHP, Rio Tinto, Barrick Gold, Teck Resources, Baker Hughes, and BP. He also sits on several advisory boards, including the National Center for Energy Analytics (the leading DC-based Energy think tank), Lilac (a lithium extraction technology company) and Oryx Global Partners (a resources-focused private equity firm).

Peter is a regular participant in the World Economic Forum’s annual Mine Ministers Summit and the Future Minerals Forum Ministerial Roundtable. He is also an invited participant in the joint Rockefeller Foundation and Brookings Institute 17 Rooms program, which aims to accelerate the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals He is a co-author of “The Growth Champions: The Battle for Sustained Innovation Leadership,” which was published in 2012.

Peter’s expert insights and opinions have been featured in various industry publications, including the Canadian Mining Journal, Journal of Petroleum Technology, Global Mining Review, and Chief Executive, and he is often quoted in the Wall Street Journal. He has also been interviewed by Bloomberg and CNBC Arabia. He immigrated to the United States in 1996 from New Zealand via Australia and currently splits his time between the U.S. and London.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, is a CA from the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also a co-founder of The World Innovation Network.

  • The critical minerals famine: supply deficit projections, downstream exposure, the ten headwinds impeding timely supply expansion and the decisions that must be made now.

  • Indigenous communities as development partners for all minerals and energy projects: the Triangle of Trust framework for governing relationships from project inception through to production, and the shift from consultation to participation.
