Nicos Christodoulakis's Biography

Nicos Christodoulakis has had a long and distinguished career in academia and public service. Most notably, he was the Greek Minister of the Economy and Finance from 2001 to 2004. He is currently Professor of Economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB).

As Minister of the Economy and Finance, Nicos was Chairman of the Finance Ministers Council (ECOFIN) in the European Union during the Greek presidency. In 2003 he also chaired the Eurogroup where he participated in international meetings with the G7, IMF and World Bank. He was previously Minister for Development (2000-01) responsible for Energy, Industry, Trade, Tourism and Research. Earlier in his career he was also the Economic Advisor to the then Prime Minister Costas Simitis.

Nicos has published a number of books and articles on economic policy and economic crises. His most recent books include “Can the Titanic Be Saved? From the Memorandum, Back to Growth” (2011) and “Economic Theories and Crises: The Cycle of Rationality and Folly” (2012).

He regularly lectures overseas in economics, including at the Charles University in Prague, and at the University of Cambridge, where he was Senior Research Officer in the Department of Applied Economics.
