Jim Rogers's Biography

Jim Rogers is a best-selling author, commentator, adventurer, renowned investor.  Jim Rogers is a very popular keynote speaker on finance and investment. He is regularly featured in leading international media outlets, including Time, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Barron’s, Forbes, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The Business Times, The Straits Times and others. He’s also a regular commentator and columnist and has been a professor at Columbia University.

Jim studied at Yale and Oxford University before co-founding the Quantum Fund, a global-investment partnership. During the next 10 years, the portfolio gained 4200%, compared to the S&P’s 50%. He then decided to retire, aged just 37. Jim continued to manage his own portfolio and moved into academia, taking up the position of professor of finance at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. In 1989 and 1990, he was the moderator of WCBS’s ‘The Dreyfus Roundtable’ and FNN’s ‘The Profit Motive with Jim Rogers’.

In 1990-92, Jim set out to fulfill a lifelong dream: motorcycling 100,000 miles across six continents – an achievement that landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records. As a private investor, he constantly analysed the countries through which he traveled in search of investment ideas. He recorded his unique journey in “Investment Biker: On the Road with Jim Rogers”. In 1999, Jim embarked on a Millennium Adventure, travelling around the world for 3 years, passing through 116 countries and covering more than 245,000 kilometres – setting yet another Guinness World Record in the process. He recounted this journey in his book “Adventure Capitalist: The Ultimate Road Trip”.

His book, “Hot Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably In The World’s Best Market”, was published in 2004. Another of his books, “A Bull in China” recounts his experiences in China and the changes and opportunities there. His recent book “A Gift to My Children” is a heartfelt guide for his daughters (as well as for all adults and children) to find success and happiness. His memoir “Street Smarts: Adventures on the Road and in the Markets” was published in February 2013.
