José Manuel González Páramo's Biography

José Manuel González Páramo is a Spanish economist who served as a Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank from 2004 to 2012. He is currently Professor of Economics at the IESE Business School, University of Navarra.

Prior to this appointment, he was Member of the Executive Commission (1998-2004) and Member of the Governing Council (1994-2004) of Banco de España. He joined the bank in 1994 and worked there for the next 10 years as a Senior Economic Adviser. Previously, he was an economic adviser at the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Finance from 1985 to 1987, before moving on to become Head of the Public Finance Department from 1986 to 1994.

An expert on fiscal and monetary policy, he has written a number of books and articles on these topics. His publications and research have focused primarily on the economic effects of public spending and the costs and benefits of disinflation. Throughout his career he has worked as an adviser for several Spanish, European and international organisations, including the World Bank, the International Development Bank, the European Commission and Spanish government agencies.
