Matthew Lynn is one of Britain’s most widely read financial commentators, whose work reaches audiences across the globe through The Daily Telegraph, The Washington Post, The Spectator, MoneyWeek, and syndication in outlets including The Sydney Morning Herald, Die Welt and the South China Morning Post.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Lynn has established himself as a sharp and accessible voice on economics, markets, business strategy and geopolitics. He writes with rare clarity on the forces shaping the global economy — from sovereign debt crises and monetary policy to the rise and limits of state capitalism — and has built a loyal readership among investors, business leaders and policymakers alike. His Washington Post opinion columns bring a distinctly British perspective to transatlantic economic and political debates, regularly challenging conventional wisdom on free markets, fiscal policy and the future of Western economies.

Prior to his current roles, Lynn spent a decade at The Sunday Times as a business reporter and profile columnist, and twelve years as a columnist for Bloomberg News, with regular appearances on Bloomberg Television.

As an author, Lynn has written extensively in book form as well as in print. His 2010 work Bust: Greece, the Euro and the Sovereign Debt Crisis was among the first major English-language accounts of the eurozone’s near-collapse, and remains a reference point for understanding the fragility of monetary union. The Long Depression: The Slump of 2008 to 2031 offered a sweeping and provocative analysis of secular stagnation in the developed world. His earlier books include The Billion-Dollar Battle: Merck v. Glaxo and Birds of Prey: Boeing v. Airbus, both authoritative accounts of the competitive battles reshaping global industries. Lynn is also the founder of Lume Books, a leading independent e-book publisher, sold to Joffe Books in 2023, enabling him to speak on entrepreneurship as well as business and economics.
