David Sinclair's Biography

David Sinclair AO is the Professor of Genetics, co-Director of Aging Research, biologist, futurist and a keynote speaker on the future of genetic makeup, longevity and aging research.

As Professor of Genetics and co-director at the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School, David is at the forefront of epigenetics research. This research is not intended to manipulate DNA sequences, but rather it studies how environmental and behavioural factors can affect the way genes function.

David joined the Harvard Medical School faculty in 1999, where he struggled to secure funding for his research until he met the esteemed philanthropist  Paul F. Glenn who funded the genetics research and established the Paul F. Glenn Laboratories for the Biological Mechanisms of Aging, where David has served as a co-director since 2005.

David is a co-founder and Scientific Advisor at CohBar. This biotechnology company focuses on treating chronic and age-related diseases through mitochondria-based therapeutics (MBTs) to develop short chains of amino acid monomers, known as peptides. David was also a co-founder of OvaScience, a biotechnology company focusing on researching and developing alternative treatments for female infertility. He is a former co-founder of Genocea Biosciences, a biopharmaceutical company that stimulates T cells to develop specialised cancer vaccines and immunotherapies. David is also a former co-founder of Sirtris, a biotechnology company that focuses on developing treatments for cancer, type 2 diabetes and other diseases. The company was co-founded along with five entrepreneurial partners, and it was a huge success that was bought by pharma powerhouse GlaxoSmithKline, who later integrated it into their more significant business.

In 2019 David published the neoteric book Lifespan: Why We Age – and Why We Don’t Have To. He dissects how humanity can slow down or reverse the ageing process by activating revolutionary vitality genes. As a researcher, David has written numerous research and scholarly articles related to biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical genomics, infectious diseases and biosecurity.

David has received many awards and accolades for his contributions to the sciences. In 2018, he was made an Order of Australia (AO) for his “distinguished service to medical research into the biology of ageing and lifespan extension, as a geneticist and academic, to biosecurity initiatives, and as an advocate for the study of science”. The Australian government has presented him with the Advance Award in Life Sciences and the Australian Society for Medical Research Medal. The American Federation for Aging Research awarded him the Irving S. Wright Award of Distinction, and Time magazine named him one of the hundred most influential people in the world and one of the 50 Most Influential People in Health Care,

David has a keen interest in scientific and medical advisory and currently serves on the boards of many biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies, including; Life Biosciences, Immetas Therapeutics, Metrobiotech International and Arc Bio.

David has a Bachelor of Science degree and a PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of New South Wales. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, focusing on genetics.

As a leading researcher, geneticist, academic and biologist, David is a highly sought-after and engaging speaker who is a pioneer in his field. He has hosted countless speaking engagements, including the popular TedMed, and in late 2021 he created a podcast titled Lifespan, which has become highly popular.
