Birgit Vallmüür Keynote Speaker

  • Former government strategist trusted by banks, sovereigns, and boards to navigate complexity and future-proof business continuity.
  • Pioneering voice on protecting natural capital investments from third-party risk, legal exposure, and asset degradation.
  • Creator of the “corporate legacy” model – aligning fiduciary duty with innovation, resilience, and long-term value creation.

Birgit Vallmüür's Biography

Dr Birgit Vallmüür helps boards and executives future-proof their businesses by reframing sustainability as a strategic tool for litigation resilience, collaboration, and reputational capital. She equips decision-makers to move beyond politicised ESG debates and toward business continuity, asset protection, and long-term leadership.

A former senior civil servant and policy strategist, Birgit built the sovereign foresight model and multi-billion-dollar budget framework for one of the world’s most agile OECD governments. Today, she advises multinational firms, banks, and governments on navigating complexity, transforming risk, and leading with credibility.

She is the creator of the “corporate legacy” approach – a powerful antidote to ESG fatigue that helps businesses focus on undeniable impact while maximising resource efficiency. Her pioneering thought leadership on safeguarding natural capital from third-party environmental crimes is reshaping how investors think about monitoring and insuring nature-based assets.

From advising finance ministers and boardrooms to hiking barefoot in the Swiss Alps and looking for polar bears in the Arctic, she had a career break that made a head-hunter want to quit his job and follow her lead. Two years of global travel connecting first-class airport lounges and sleeping with chickens in a Bornean longhouse included time with an elderly nun in a Buddhist monastery in the Korean mountains – Birgit’s sabbatical reflects her rare ability to bridge power and perspective.

Her lens is as wide-ranging as it is grounded. Birgit’s keynotes shift narratives, move minds, and give senior leaders a fresh framework for action, innovation, and legacy.

Birgit recently lectured on Nature-based Finance and Investment at the Centre for Climate Finance and Investment at Imperial College Business School, and teaches the Business in Society and Circular Economy module on a Global Executive MBA program ranked No. 1 by CEO Magazine in 2023. She has spoken on the inaugural sustainability stage of the world’s largest appliances trade show and has shared the stage with global leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi while moderating visionary entrepreneurs like Naveen Jain.

Comments & Testimonials

"This week I had an opportunity to spend two intense days of networking, lectures and workshops at the #ImpactDay conference in Tallinn. One of the key discussions that really made an impact on me was the idea expressed by Birgit Vallmüür, Ph.D. that instead of a forward-looking purpose businesses should rather look at their corporate legacy.”
Ieva Kustova, Sustainability Manager, Latvijas dzelzceļš
"Birgit was by far my favorite presenter on the Sustainability Unlocked platform. I spent 10 years in the nonprofit world before transitioning into the corporate sector. Since making the shift, I've been asking myself "why corporate" and Birgit gave me the words - and data! - to articulate it. Corporations can do more than some governments. We can move across borders and at a speed unparalleled to other sectors. Birgit helped me articulate our advantage and why corporate sustainability isn't a side project - it's a necessity.“
Erin Roesch, Sage Foundation Community Engagement Manager (ESG), Sage
"I got for myself an interesting approach that SDGs should be viewed through the perspective of executive legacy as the success largely depends on agility, cross-border approaches, and innovation. From the workshop I take with me the thought exercise how to integrate this into day-to-day business activities and to review the transition plan even better in a rapidly changing world. Thank you a lot!"
Kerli Paas, Sustainable Development Project Manager, Enterprise Estonia
