Amber Rudd's Biography

Amber Rudd is a business leader and a former senior politician and cabinet member.

Following a career in the private sector, she became the MP for Hastings and Rye for nearly 10 years, from 2010 to 2019. During that time she served in cabinet for four years under three different Prime Ministers.

During these years she served as;

Secretary of State for Climate Change 2015/2016 under David Cameron she led the UK delegation to secure the first ever binding international deal to reduce carbon emissions, The 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
A leading cabinet Minister she played an active role in the Brexit debate, representing the Remain campaign on 2015 TV debates
Home Secretary from 2016-2018 under Theresa May she led the UK’s response to the terrorist attacks and worked closely with the ISPs to remove terrorist material from online sites,
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Women and Equalities Minister in 2018 and led a programme for reform

After resigning form Boris Johnson’s cabinet, she successfully campaigned with other “rebel” MPs to stop a “no-deal” Brexit.

Since leaving politics Amber has built a new career in the private sector. She is a Non Executive Director for Centrica Plc, and Ryanair Holdings plc. She has senior advisory roles with other leading companies, mostly in the energy and financial service sectors. She is a Trustee for RUSI the leading foreign affairs think tank.

In May 2025, she launched a weekly podcast – ‘The Crisis Room”- with Global, which she co hosts with Mark Urban, they explore the latest international crises.
