Elizabeth Cohen's Biography

Elizabeth Cohen is a Peabody Award-winning medical journalist and contributor to NBC News and AtlanticLIVE. She is the author of The Empowered Patient, and her reporting has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, STAT, and at CNN, where she served as Senior Medical Correspondent.

Cohen has reported from the frontlines of major global and national crises, including the September 11th attacks, Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti earthquake, the BP oil spill, and the Ebola outbreak in Liberia.

A three-time Gracie Award winner from the Alliance for Women in Media, her work has also been recognized by the Association of Health Care Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Society of Professional Journalists, and Research!America, which honored her for her impact on public opinion.

She has received outstanding alumni awards from Columbia College and Boston University, where she earned a master’s degree in public health.
