Spencer Kelly's Biography

Spencer Kelly is a technology broadcaster, journalist and keynote speaker who makes complex innovation engaging, entertaining and easy to understand. He presented the BBC’s flagship global technology programme Click from January 2006 until its final episode in March 2025, travelling worldwide to uncover how science and invention are changing everyday life. Along the way, he helped pioneer “world-first” broadcasts leading an episode filmed in 360 degrees, a programme shot and edited entirely on mobile devices, and a multi-choice interactive edition where viewers chose the path through the story.

A computer scientist by training, Spencer joined the BBC in 2003 as one of its early interactive presenters, building new ways to connect audiences with emerging technology. Today, he presents Understand: Tech & AI for BBC Radio 4/BBC Sounds and regularly brings practical gadget and digital insight to BBC Morning Live. He’s also interviewed a wide range of cultural and tech figures from Sir Paul McCartney to Edward Snowden and has fronted investigative reporting for Panorama as well as presenting at the BAFTAs.

On stage, Spencer combines deep technical authority with the pace and storytelling craft of live television. His keynotes are tailored, global in outlook, and focused on outcomes helping leaders separate hype from reality, understand what AI can (and can’t) do, and make smarter decisions about risk, trust and transformation. Whether chairing panels or hosting major conference stages including the Tech Arena at LEAP—he brings clarity, humour and momentum to the conversations that matter most.
