Rich Diviney's Biography

Rich Diviney is a bestselling author, renowned speaker, and leadership expert who draws upon more than two decades of distinguished service as a Navy SEAL Officer. Over the course of his military career, Rich completed 13 overseas deployments, including 11 to Iraq and Afghanistan.

His unique perspective was honed through his role as the Officer in Charge of Training and Selection for an elite SEAL Command, where he oversaw the meticulous process of identifying and cultivating the most optimal performers from among the already exceptional.

This experience fueled Rich’s exploration of the hidden attributes that drive human performance, leading to the release of his first bestselling book, The Attributes: 25 Hidden Drivers of Optimal Performance. In this groundbreaking work, Rich distilled the innate qualities—such as resilience, adaptability, and courage—that enable individuals and teams to excel under pressure. The book allowed for the launch of The Attributes Inc., a speaking and consulting business that has transformed how companies hire, build teams, and develop leaders by prioritizing innate attributes over learned skills.

In his second book, Masters of Uncertainty: The Navy SEAL Way to Turn Stress into Success for You and Your Team, Rich expands his insights to the realm of uncertainty and chaos. Leveraging his SEAL training and neuroscience-backed strategies, he equips readers
with tools to manage stress, stay calm under pressure, and transform chaos into an advantage. The Mastering Uncertainty Method has become a vital guide for individuals and teams navigating today’s unpredictable world.

Since retiring from active duty in 2017, Rich has devoted himself to sharing his knowledge through speaking engagements, workshops, and consulting. His expertise has empowered top-tier organizations—including Google, McKinsey, American Airlines, and the San Francisco 49ers—to achieve peak performance and navigate complex challenges.

Rich’s work goes beyond the corporate world. Through assessments, workshops, and workbooks, he helps individuals harness their unique attributes and thrive in every aspect of their lives.

He resides in Virginia Beach, VA, with his wife and two children.

Not your typical Navy SEAL rah, rah speaker... Rich is the combination of part neuroscientist and part professor who built and tested his theories in the most elite special forces. My team was blown away.
Dan Briscoe President for BuildWitt
We had Rich speak at our annual franchise convention and his message surrounding grit attributes really hit home with our franchisees! His talk was inspiring, thought provoking and I loved how he incorporated the fireside chat to his talk where it allowed us to have some in depth conversations regarding specific challenges, we face in our organization around optimal performance. If you’re looking for someone to inspire your audience, give some tangible takeaways on how they can improve performance in business but also in life then Rich is the speaker you’re looking for!
Mark Spzak CFE, Vice President Field Operations for Tutor Doctor
The hour went by so quickly! Rich deftly navigated us through attributes vs. skills using storytelling and experiences. Rich was able to explain what a high-performance team looks like and how to measure it in a business setting that resonated with our audience and left them wanting for more.
