Lucy Shepherd's Biography

Lucy Shepherd is an explorer, filmmaker, author and keynote speaker, recognised as one of Britain’s leading voices on modern exploration and resilience.

Through more than 35 expeditions across some of the world’s most remote environments, from the Amazon rainforest to Polar regions to high mountain ranges and Indigenous territories, Lucy has built a career leading teams into places where uncertainty is the only constant.

She first came to national prominence after leading the first recorded east to west crossing of Guyana’s Kanuku Mountains: a 50 day, 400km expedition completed alongside Indigenous Makushi and Wapishana team members. The journey became the acclaimed Channel 4 documentary Secret Amazon: Into the Wild, introducing audiences to an expedition that combined genuine adventure with conservation and cross-cultural collaboration.

In 2026 she returned to Channel 4 as presenter of the three-part series Secret Africa: Into the Wild, living and travelling on foot with nomadic hunter-gatherer communities across Tanzania in one of her most ambitious expeditions to date. Rather than simply documenting wilderness (no crew with her), Lucy explores what these landscapes can teach us about resilience, human connection and our relationship with the natural world.

Alongside her television work, Lucy is the author of Into the Wild: The Making of an Explorer, published by Penguin Michael Joseph, which shares her purpose-driven journey into this unique career and tells the untold story behind her Amazon expedition and the lessons it revealed about adapting, leadership, courage and curiosity.
