Jimmy Carr's Biography

Jimmy Carr is  television host, comedian, actor and writer who has entertained audiences for over two decades with his dry-wit humour. As a public speaker, he’s regarded as one of Britain’s greatest stand-up comedians and is highly sought-after for his quick wit, dark humour and down-to-earth personality.

In late 2021, Jimmy became the host of Channel 4 gameshow Jimmy Carr’s I Literally Just Told You. He’s a long-serving host of 8 Out of 10 Cats, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year. Jimmy previously hosted several shows, including Roast Battle, A Comedy Roast, and Your Face or Mine?. He was a co-host on Alternative Election Night and 10 O’Clock Live. He was the UK and US host of Distraction.

Jimmy has had guest appearances on several programmes, including, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and he set a new celebrity trial lap record on Top Gear. He’s appeared on celebrity editions of Deal or No Deal, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Tipping Point, Benchmark, Catchphrase and The Chase.

He’s also lent his talents to radio as a presenter and guest on Loose Ends, The Fred MacAulay Show and Flight of the Conchords. He’s a frequent podcast guest on various channels, including, You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes, The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast, The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett, Bob Saget’s Here for You, and The Comedian’s Comedian.

Along with his comedic abilities, Jimmy is also an accomplished writer. In 2021 he published Before & Laughter, serving as a memoir and self-empowerment guide for everyone who feels like they’re in a slump but lacks the skills or confidence to make a shift. He’s also the co-author of The Naked Jape (2006), exploring the motivations behind comedy and what makes some jokes more impactful than others.

Jimmy has received many awards and recognition for his work. He holds several LAFTA awards including Loaded Legend, Best Stand Up, and Funniest Man. he also holds awards from The Royal Television Society, British Comedy, and Time Out.
