Fei Huang Keynote Speaker

Dr. Fei Huang is an Associate Professor (with tenure) of Risk and Actuarial Studies at UNSW Business School. She holds degrees from Xiamen University (BSc), the University of Hong Kong (MPhil), and the Australian National University (PhD). 

Her research sits at the intersection of responsible AI, insurance, and data-driven decision-making, with a focus on ensuring that insurance and retirement income systems remain fair, sustainable, and resilient amid technological and climate change. She works across statistics, machine learning, economics, and actuarial science to develop insurance and retirement solutions that are accurate, interpretable, and equitable. 

Her work has received multiple awards from both academic and professional bodies, including the Australian Business Deans Council Award for Innovation and Excellence in Research, the Dean’s Award for Distinction (the highest individual honour), the North American Actuarial Journal Best Paper Award, and the Actuaries Institute’s Volunteer of the Year Award, and is supported by major competitive funding such as Australian Research Council Discovery Projects and the National Industry PhD Program. 

Fei is a leading voice in the profession on responsible AI in insurance, serving as a columnist for Actuaries Digital and working widely with industry and government on issues ranging from fairness in pricing to longevity risk and climate resilience. Her work bridges research, policy, and practice, shaping regulatory thinking and supporting the responsible use of data-driven decision systems. She has advised regulators internationally, including serving as an invited expert providing testimony to the New York State Assembly Public Hearing on AI in Insurance. She teaches actuarial data science and responsible AI at UNSW, where she has been recognised with multiple teaching excellence awards.
