Bill Kramer's Biography
Bill Kramer is the CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the world’s preeminent organization devoted to cinema. In this role, he oversees assets of over $1B, an annual operating budget of $180MM and a team of over 700. He is responsible for the Academy’s global operations and programs, including the Oscars, and negotiating long-term global broadcast deals for the organization, most recently with YouTube and Disney/ABC. He also oversees services for the organization’s 11,000 global members as well as the $500MM Academy100 revenue diversification campaign.
Before his position as Academy CEO, Kramer was the Director and President of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures—the world’s largest film museum—which he successfully opened in September 2021. In this role, Kramer oversaw all aspects of the project’s management, staffing, design, curation, fundraising, and creative direction. He previously served as the museum’s Managing Director of Development and External Affairs for five years, successfully raising $250MM to move the project into construction and managing its public approvals and planning process.
In addition, Kramer has led capital and comprehensive fundraising campaigns for the Columbia University School of the Arts and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and has served in senior business and fundraising positions at the Sundance Institute and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).
Bill holds a Master of Urban Planning and Public Administration degree from New York University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
