Ayo Akinwolere's Biography

Ayo Akinwolere is a world-record-breaking swimmer and award-winning broadcaster with a global voice. In 2023, he became the host of The Athletic FC podcast, a flagship show for The Athletic and The New York Times, where he explores some of football’s most compelling narratives. The podcast won Sports Podcast of the Year at the 2024 British Podcast Awards.

Ayo first rose to prominence on Blue Peter, where he made history as the programme’s first Black male presenter. During his five-year tenure, he earned multiple BAFTA nominations, including Presenter of the Year and Programme of the Year. In 2011, he swam over five miles across the Palau Trench in the Pacific Ocean—setting a world record for the deepest location open-water swim and challenging perceptions about race and representation in sport.

His career evolved into investigative journalism with the BBC’s Inside Out, where his debut documentary earned a Royal Television Society Award and later the BBC Ruby Award for Programme of the Year. He went on to become a prominent face in sports broadcasting, anchoring CBS Sports’ Golazo UEFA coverage and hosting major events for the BBC and Channel 4.

Through Milk First Productions, Ayo develops impactful documentary content, while supporting charities like Crisis UK and The Prince’s Trust. A trusted media voice and passionate advocate, he speaks with clarity, insight, and purpose—engaging audiences on resilience, inclusion, and the stories that shape who we are.
