Ana Birchall's Biography
Ana Birchall is a former Deputy Prime Minister of Romania, former Minister of Justice and one of Central Europe’s leading voices on geopolitics, transatlantic relations and strategic leadership. Having held senior roles across government, diplomacy and international law, she brings first-hand insight into the political and economic forces reshaping Europe and the wider world.
A graduate of Yale Law School, where she earned both a Master’s degree and PhD in Law, Ana began her career as a lawyer on Wall Street before returning to Romania to serve in public office. Over two decades, she held a series of senior government positions including Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Romania’s Strategic Partnerships, Minister of Justice, Minister Delegate for European Affairs and High Representative of the Prime Minister for Strategic Partnerships with the United States and European Affairs. She also served as a Presidential Adviser on foreign policy and strategic partnerships.
Throughout her career, Ana has been closely involved in strengthening Romania’s relationships with NATO allies, advancing European integration and helping shape policy on security, governance, energy and international cooperation. More recently, she played a leading role in promoting major strategic energy projects through Nuclearelectrica, working at the intersection of energy security, infrastructure investment and geopolitical strategy.
Ana is widely respected for her principled leadership, including her efforts to strengthen the rule of law, combat corruption and reinforce democratic institutions.
