Judit Polgár is widely recognised as the greatest female chess player of all time and one of the most influential figures in the history of the game. Renowned for breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated sport, she became the first and only woman to break into the world’s top 10 chess rankings, reaching a peak ranking of World No. 8 and defeating numerous World Champions throughout her career.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Judit became the youngest Grandmaster in history at the time, surpassing Bobby Fischer’s long-standing record at just 15 years and 4 months old. Rather than competing primarily in women’s events, she chose to play in open competitions, establishing herself among the strongest players in the world.

Since retiring from professional competition in 2014, Judit has focused on education, innovation and promoting critical thinking through chess.
