Alex Staniforth's Biography
Alex Staniforth is a record-breaking adventurer, performance coach, author and charity founder from Chester, and an expert in resilience in a world that constantly demands more.
By the age of 30, Alex has overcome more challenges than most will face in a lifetime — surviving the two biggest disasters in Mount Everest history while still a teenager, breaking endurance records, and navigating personal struggles with mental ill health, epilepsy and a stammer since childhood.
Failure, setbacks and uncertainty have never stopped Alex pursuing the seemingly impossible and redefining success.
At just 18, Alex raised over £35,000 in sponsorship to attempt his goal of climbing Mount Everest. His first expedition in 2014 ended when a devastating avalanche took sixteen lives. A year later, he survived the Nepal earthquake while trapped at Camp 1 as another avalanche struck Base Camp.
Yet Alex refused to be defined by adversity. In 2025 he became the first and fastest person to run and cycle all 446 mountains in England and Wales in just 45 days — beating the previous record by more than four months. He has completed the National Three Peaks Challenge entirely on foot within nine days and holds the fastest known time to climb all 100 UK county tops by human power.
Alex is the author of two books (Icefall and Another Peak) and the founder of Mind Over Mountains, a charity restoring mental wellbeing through nature. His adventures have raised over £150,000 for charity, and in 2025 he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Chester for his contribution to young people’s mental health.
However, Alex is not your typical motivational speaker. Through remarkable storytelling and lived experience, he offers a refreshingly relatable and human perspective on resilience – sharing practical tools and lessons that anyone can apply to navigate their own goals and “avalanche moments”.
Alex has been trusted by organisations across the UK, Europe and Asia including Rolls-Royce, Bank of America, Samsung, Accenture and the NHS — helping teams and leaders to redefine resilience so they can sustain performance and thrive through pressure, crisis and uncertainty.
Are your teams ready for the challenges ahead? Let Alex help them take the first step out of Base Camp.
