Jonathan Berry's Biography
Jonathan Berry, 5th Viscount Camrose, stands at the forefront of global technology policy and innovation. Elected to the House of Lords in April 2022, he swiftly became the United Kingdom’s first dedicated Minister for Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property (2023–2024). In September 2024, he was appointed Shadow Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, continuing his commitment to advancing the UK’s technological leadership.
As Minister for AI, Camrose chaired the landmark 2023 AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park, where he oversaw the launch of the UK’s AI Safety Institute. He successfully steered two significant pieces of legislation through Parliament: the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act. His ministerial portfolio also encompassed national cybersecurity, intellectual property, and geospatial strategy, positioning him as a central figure in shaping the UK’s digital landscape.
Currently, Camrose channels his extensive experience into advising and developing UK technology ventures. He serves as a director of Lumi Network, an AI-driven recruitment and upskilling platform, and advises companies such as Vortexia Ltd, which enhances digital experiences for live events, and Conquer AI, a rapidly growing AI developer. He is also establishing the UK Hiring Taskforce, aimed at promoting effective AI adoption in the recruitment sector.
Prior to his political career, Camrose worked extensively in transformation roles across various industries. He developed early techniques in clinical trial automation for Pfizer and led digital transformation initiatives for BP and Shell. As head of Expressworks Ltd’s European arm, he expanded the consultancy’s client base across new sectors. He holds a BA in French and German from Durham University and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University (2000). His international experience spans Europe, the United States, and Africa, and he currently resides in London with his family.
