Katy Balls's Biography

Katy Balls is Washington Editor and columnist for The Times and The Sunday Times, a role she took up in April 2025 after over a decade covering Westminster. Reporting from Capitol Hill, she brings sharp, agenda-setting analysis that anchors transatlantic political coverage—connecting key developments in Washington with their implications in London and beyond.

From 2023 to 2025, she led political coverage at The Spectator as Political Editor, following two years as Deputy Political Editor. During her time there, she launched and hosted the fortnightly podcast Women With Balls, now exceeding 150 episodes and spotlighting leading voices from Dame Joan Collins to MPs and business leaders.

Her earlier columns for the i newspaper—including fortnightly Westminster analysis—were shortlisted for Political Commentator of the Year at the 2017 Press Awards and for Comment Journalism at the 2021 British Journalism Awards. A trusted broadcast voice, Katy regularly appears on Newsnight, BBC Radio 4, Sky News and Have I Got News For You, translating complex political narratives into clear, compelling stories.

On stage, she distils insider perspectives on transatlantic power dynamics, election campaigns, media influence and public discourse. Her presentations offer business, diplomatic and public-sector audiences data-driven insight, clarity and wit—all framed through a truly international outlook.
