Graeme Leach's Biography

Graeme Leach is widely regarded as one of Britain’s most influential macroeconomists, renowned for translating volatile global forces into clear strategic insight. As Chief Economist and Director of Policy at the Institute of Directors from 1997 to 2014, he represented around 40,000 business leaders in high-level negotiations with successive Chancellors and 10 Downing Street.

A compelling communicator, Leach has delivered over 1,000 keynotes to corporate audiences in more than 25 countries, including events at the Royal Albert Hall. He held a weekly City AM column for nearly a decade and has made over 150 live appearances on BBC, Sky News, CNBC, and CNN, turning complex data into engaging narratives.

In 2016, he founded the advisory firm Macronomics, and in June 2025, he launched Global4cast, providing scenario-based macro and geopolitical forecasts for a world defined by poly-crises and rapid technological change. Earlier in his career, he was Director of Economics at the Legatum Institute, Economic Adviser to Scottish Provident Investment Group, and Chief International Economist at the Henley Centre for Forecasting. A member of the IEA Shadow Monetary Policy Committee since 2014, he remains embedded in leading-edge policy debate.

Leach’s forecasting record is exceptional: from predicting the collapse of communism early in his career, to calling Brexit five years ahead, foreseeing China’s growth deceleration, and flagging the 2022 inflation spike well before central banks reacted. His latest book, The Great Inflection (2025), explores the transformative economic and technological shifts shaping the future. Audiences leave his sessions equipped with practical frameworks to navigate uncertainty and seize opportunity.
