Harry Dent Jr.'s Biography

Harry Dent Jr. is an economics guru and bestselling financial author.

When Harry studied economics in college, he found it to be vague and inconclusive. In fact, he became so disillusioned by his future career that Harry decided to throw himself into the burgeoning new science of finance, where identifying and studying demographic, technological and consumer trends empowered him to better forecast economic changes.

Harry is currently the founder of HS Dent Investment Management and independent research firm, HS Dent Publishing. He has also written numerous successful and award-winning books over the years. His New York Times best sellers include The Sale of a Lifetime (2017), The Great Depression Ahead (2008) and Great Boom Ahead (1994).

Adopting a unique method of studying economies around the world, Dent focuses on real people instead of endless graphs based on assumptions. He combines demographics with actual consumer spending to inform his research. Harry Dent’s specialty in demographic trends also revolve around when and where new generations of consumers drive economic booms around the world, as they age.

Using proprietary research, Harry addresses trends and advises investors from all over the world, including Australia and Asia, particularly Southeast Asia and India.

Some of Dent’s accurate predictions include the “bubble burst” in Japan in 1989 and the long recession that ensued. He also foresaw the downfall of the dot.com bubble in 2000 and the housing bust in 2006 to 2007. Further, Harry was credited with the prediction of populist groundswell that propelled Donald Trump into presidency.

As one of the most outspoken investment and economics commentator in America, Harry appears as a regular guest on Fox Business News and has been seen on “Good Morning America”, PBS, CNBC and CNN.

Harry Dent was formerly a Fortune 100 business consultant with Bain & Company and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar and elected to the Century Club for leadership excellence.
