Alan Rosling's Biography

Alan Rosling CBE is an experienced international business leader and entrepreneur with specialist insights on India.

Alan co-founded Kiran Energy, one of India’s leading solar power companies. Kiran secured private equity backing in 2010 and currently has more than 80 MW of assets operating. Alan also chairs Griffin Growth Partners, a specialist consultancy providing advice on the growth markets of Asia, in particular India.

Alan spent 5 years as Executive Director of Tata Sons Limited, where he was responsible for the Group’s internationalisation programme (2003-08). In this period the Group’s overseas business grew from $2.4 billion (24% of total revenues) to $38 billion (60%).

From 1998 to 2003 he was Chairman of the Jardine Matheson Group in India. His earlier career included positions as Special Advisor to Prime Minister John Major, and a member of the Policy Unit at No. 10 Downing Street; Strategy Development Director at United Distillers plc; Chief Executive of Piersons, a division of Courtaulds Textiles plc; and as an investment banker with S.G. Warburg & Co Ltd. He has an MBA from Harvard.

Alan has been active in promoting Indo-British relations for some years. As Chairman, he developed the British Business Group, Mumbai, into a vibrant organisation, and he created and chaired the City of London Advisory Council for India. He is also a Non Executive Director of Coats plc and LNGaz Inc.
