Geoff Mulgan's Biography

Sir Geoff Mulgan CBE is one of the most influential thinkers of our generation. He is a renowned author, speaker and advisor on public policy, creativity and innovation. A highly sought-after keynote speaker, Geoff has delivered talks worldwide on topics ranging from creativity and innovation to leadership and social change.

Since 2020, Geoff has been a Professor of Collective Intelligence, Public Policy and Social Innovation at University College London and is a senior visiting fellow at Harvard University. He has former visiting fellowships at Melbourne University, London School of Economics, and University College London. His previous senior positions include CEO of the Young Foundation and NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts). Under former Prime Minister Tony Blair, he served at 10 Downing Street as the Director of Policy, the Director of Strategy Unit and the Director of Performance and Innovation Unit. He was also the co-founder and Director of Demos and Chief Advisor to MP Gordon Brown.

Geoff is an accomplished author whose work has been published in some of the most prestigious journals, and he has published numerous books with plans to publish more in 2022 and 2023. His books have been translated into many different languages, and they boast titles such as Social Innovation (2019), Big Mind (2017), The Locust and the Bee (2013), The Art of Public Strategy (2008) and Good and Bad Power (2006).

At the 2020 Birthday Honours, Geoff was knighted for services to the creative industry. In addition to his PhD in Telecommunications obtained at the University of Westminster, he holds an honorary Doctor of Social Science degree from Nottingham Trent University.

He joined the International Advisory Board of the European Parliament’s Science and Technology Options Assessment Panel (STOA) in 2021.
