James Glancy's Biography

James Glancy is a filmmaker, wildlife conservationist and a decorated former Royal Marines Commando officer. He presents on the Discovery Channel and National Geographic and is an established speaker and broadcaster on conservation, wildlife and the environment.

James is currently producing his first feature documentary on Afghanistan, after travelling across the country and living with the people of Afghanistan. It will be released in early 2022 and will be the very last documentary filmed prior to – and during, the collapse of the country and the Taliban takeover. He served for 10 years in the Royal Marines, including 3 operational combat tours of Afghanistan, and was awarded the prestigious Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his leadership on operations.

James has spent his life outdoors in wild and hostile places. As a child, James was taught to dive and swim with sharks by a former US Navy Seal who inspired him to join the British military. His career has now led him back to working with wildlife as a filmmaker and to become an established host on Discovery Channel’s ‘Shark Week’ and National Geographic.

A dedicated conservationist, James has become a prominent environmental and wildlife campaigner, working as a Director of conservation charity, Veterans For Wildlife, where he has trained anti-poaching rangers in west and southern Africa. James continues to support conservation campaigns and recently presented a successful environmental series ‘Planet SOS.’

James has strong background in current affairs, history and military operations, and has an MA in Modern History from the University of Oxford. James was a co-founder of the international risk consultancy AnotherDay.
