Grant Williams's Biography

Grant Williams is a financier, investor, interviewer extraordinaire, moderator, producer, broadcaster and outstanding speaker.   His unique perspective in grounded in his 35+ years working in international finance, and having lived and worked in seven major financial centres from London to Sydney, building the kind of network that many others can only dream about.

In 2014, Grant’s ambition to bring the most intelligent, engaging, and original people in finance to a wider audience led him to co-found Real Vision, an on-demand internet-based financial media platform.   Grant’s twin Real Vision interview series, In Conversation With… and On The Road raised the bar for financial content – engaging and educating viewers in equal measure and helping them learn the secrets behind a group of extraordinary investors’ success.

Long before Real Vision, Grant was guiding people around the fringes of finance with his regular newsletter, ‘Things That Make You Go Hmmm’…, a publication which, from humble beginnings as a daily note to a few friends and colleagues, has grown into one of the most widely-read financial publications in the world.

Grant has become one of the most popular and sought-after speakers in the financial world with his unique presentations placing him amongst the most highly-rated speakers wherever he travels.   Grant’s presentations have covered a wide range of subjects, ranging from macro—focused issues such as central bank policy to individual asset class and country-specific showcases of investment themes and strategies.

Grant is particularly well known for his precious metals-focused work.  His presentations ‘Crikey!, Nobody Cares and Get It. Got It? Good‘ have been widely shared, while his 2018 presentation, ‘Cry Wolf‘, has been viewed over half a million times.  In 2018, Grant created a two part documentary  ‘Gold: The Story of Man’s 6000 year obsession‘ –  in each episode, he presents the definitive analysis of gold and helps viewers understand why gold became money and has outlasted every alternative currency for thousands of years.  In the documentary, he interviews leading experts and market analysts.

Elsewhere, presentations on Australia (Down Under Pressure), the insanity of today’s financial markets (Crazy, A World Of Pure Imagination), the unintended consequences of Quantitative Easing (Snakes & Ladders) and even Kondratieff Waves, Schumpeterian creative destruction and market cycles (The Consequences Of The Economic Peace) have been enthusiastically received by both live audiences and those watching video replays.   A hallmark of his presentations is complex information presented in a clear way with outstanding imagery and sound, along with Grant’s signature insights and quick wit.

Grant began his career in the Japanese equity market in the mid-1980s, before a three-year posting to Tokyo ensured he had a ringside seat as the twin bubbles in equities and real estate burst simultaneously and spectacularly at the end of 1989. After a short stint back in London, Grant relocated once again, this time to New York, where he spent 7 years. Subsequent postings have taken him to Hong Kong, Sydney, Singapore, and the Cayman Islands.   Currently, he is a senior advisor to Matterhorn Asset Management AG in Switzerland, and a portfolio and strategy advisor to Vulpes Investment Management in Singapore.
