Gordon Clark's Biography

Gordon L Clark is one of Europe’s leading authorities on institutional investment. He is a Professor and Director of the Smith School of Enterprise and Environment at Oxford University. He holds a Professorial Fellowship at St Edmund Hall, is the Sir Louis Matheson Distinguishing Visiting Professor at Monash University, and is a Visiting Professor at Stanford University.

Gordon’s current research focuses on the governance and management of beneficial organisations and the behaviour of participants in pension and retirement income funds. Gordon is also co-author with Roger Urwin at Towers Watson of ground-breaking reports on the governance of institutional investors, including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and endowments.

With an extensive track record of academic and commissioned publications, Gordon is author and co-author of various books, including, “Sovereign Wealth Funds: Legitimacy, Governance and Global Power” with Adam Dixon and Ashby Monk (Princeton University Press 2013), the “Oxford Handbook of Pensions and Retirement Income” with Alicia Munnell and Mike Orszag (Oxford University Press 2006), and “Saving for Retirement” with Kendra Strauss and Janelle Knox-Hayes (Oxford University Press 2012).

He has held appointments at Harvard University, the University of Chicago, and Carnegie Mellon University, and has been a Consultant to German industry pension fund MetallRente, and is Environmental Advisor to British integrated food and beverage company Diageo.
