Jesper Koll's Biography

Jesper Koll is one of Japan’s most influential economic advisors and commentators. He has been researching and investing in Japan since becoming a resident in 1986 and is highly regarded for his bullish view on Japan’s future. His analysis and insights have earned him a seat on several corporate and government advisory councils. In October 2016, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike appointed Jesper to her advisory board for the revitalization of Tokyo as a Financial Center.

Before becoming the founding head and CEO of WisdomTree Investments Japan in 2015, Jesper served as the Managing Director for Equity Research at JP Morgan in Tokyo (2009-2015), the Chief Economist for Merrill Lynch Japan (1999-2008), a Managing Director for the Tiger Fund (1998-1999) and the Chief Economist for JP Morgan Japan (1994-1998).
Prior to starting his career in Tokyo financial markets as Chief Economist for SG Warburg in 1989, Jesper worked for three years as an aide to a Japanese Member of Parliament.

Over the past two decades, Jesper has been consistently ranked as one of the top Japan strategists and economists. He has written three books in Japanese, “Japan’s Economy – The Envy of the World” (2017), “The End of Heisei Deflation“ (2001), and “Towards a New Japanese Golden Age” (1999). Jesper is a regular commentator on several Japanese and international news programs, such as NHK, Fuji TV, Nikkei CNBC, Bloomberg, World Business Satelite and CNN. He is one of the few non-Japanese members of the Keizai Doyukai, the Japan Association of Corporate Executives. Jesper has delivered several TED talks and is highly regarded as a dynamic and engaging speaker. He delivers in English, Japanese or German.
