Jonathan Katz's Biography

Jonathan Katz is an award winning journalist and author. As the only full-time American correspondent in Haiti at the time of the 2010 earthquake, Jonathan made his name breaking news of the earthquake and the subsequent cholera outbreak.

Jonathan’s work in Haiti earned him the 2010 Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism and in 2012 his book “The Big Truck That Went By: How the World Came to Save Haiti and Left Behind a Disaster” was published to critical acclaim. The book won the 2013 Cornelius Ryan Award for ‘the best nonfiction book on international affairs’ by the Overseas Press Club of America, as well as a host of other awards. Other recognition for his journalism has included a National Headliners Award and finalist recognition by the Livingston Award and Michael Kelly Award for the “fearless pursuit and expression of truth.”

As a renowned investigative journalist for the Associated Press, Jonathan is noted for his fearless pursuit of the truth and honest depictions of his experiences and those around him. After graduating from Northwestern and the Medill School of Journalism, Jonathan went on to report in Washington and the Dominican Republic before moving to Haiti. Since his highly respected coverage of Haiti, Jonathan has subsequently covered the drugs war in Mexico.
