Sarina Wiegman's Biography
Sarina Wiegman-Glotzbach has firmly established herself as one of the most influential figures in world football. Recognised as a powerful voice in women’s sport, she has combined tactical excellence, mental resilience and visionary leadership to inspire teams to historic achievements on the international stage.
Currently serving as the manager of the England Women’s National Football Team, Sarina has led the Lionesses to unprecedented success, including the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 victory, England’s first major tournament win since 1966, and a repeat triumph at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. She also guided the team to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final in 2023, confirming her reputation as one of the most successful coaches in modern football.
Her path to coaching greatness began on the pitch. As a former international with over 100 caps for the Netherlands, Wiegman represented her country from 1987 to 2001, playing both in midfield and defence. She also played for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels under the legendary Anson Dorrance, training alongside stars such as Mia Hamm and Kristine Lilly, an experience that deeply shaped her perspective on teamwork and elite performance.
After retiring from professional play in 2003, she turned to coaching, beginning with Ter Leede and ADO Den Haag before joining the Dutch national setup as assistant coach in 2014. As head coach, she led the Netherlands to victory at UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 and to the final of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Her achievements earned her The Best FIFA Women’s Coach award in 2017, 2020, 2022 and 2023, a record that remains unmatched in the women’s game.
