Andrew J. Scott's Biography

Prof. Andrew J. Scott is one of the world’s leading voices on the economics of longevity.

Andrew is Professor of Economics at London Business School where he combines rigorous macroeconomic analysis with a compelling vision for how societies, businesses, and individuals can thrive as life expectancy rises. He is also Principal Scientist (Economics) at the Ellison Institute of Technology, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research, and previously held academic posts at Oxford, Harvard, and the London School of Economics.

His research focuses on the economics of longevity and ageing and is published in a wide range of leading academic journals. He is the author of two award-winning books – The Longevity Imperative (2024) offers a blueprint for building healthier, more productive societies in an age of unprecedented longevity. The book has been praised for its insightful analysis and practical recommendations. His prior book is The Hundred Year Life (2016). Both books shortlisted by the FT Business Book of the Year Award, and The Hundred Year Life is a global bestseller, having sold over a million copies.

Scott has advised a range of corporations, governments and international organizations and is regularly featured in the international media. His focus is how we adapt and adjust to achieve a longevity rather than an ageing society so that life isn’t just longer but healthier, productive and engaged for longer.

As an adviser to the UK Treasury, Bank of England, and World Economic Forum, Scott translates demographic insight into practical policy and board-level strategy—from investing in healthspan and lifelong learning to redesigning pensions and the labour market. As co-founder of The Longevity Forum, he convenes innovators across science, finance, and technology to accelerate progress.

Professor Scott blends storytelling with clear-eyed economics, challenges audiences to rethink careers, markets, and capital allocation for a 100year life — offering a practical blueprint for building healthier, more productive societies. His evidence-based optimism equips leaders with the insight, inspiration, and global outlook needed to turn demographic headwinds into a durable competitive edge.

He holds a PhD from Oxford University and previously held positions at Oxford University, Harvard University, and the London School of Economics.
