Paddy Lowe's Biography
Paddy Lowe is one of Formula One’s most accomplished engineers, credited with guiding cars to 12 World Championships and 158 Grand Prix victories during influential tenures at Williams Racing (1987–1993 & 2017–2019), McLaren (1993–2013), and Mercedes-AMG Petronas (2013–2017). A pioneer of breakthrough technologies—from active suspension and brake-steer at Williams to seamless-shift gearboxes and hybrid-power mastery at McLaren and Mercedes—Lowe built high-trust cultures where data, creativity, and relentless marginal gains delivered dominant on-track performance. His engineering vision powered the record-setting 2014–2016 Mercedes cars that redefined reliability and speed in the hybrid era.
In 2020, he co-founded Zero Petroleum, spearheading the development of drop-in synthetic fuels made from air and water. Just a year later, the company and the Royal Air Force earned a Guinness World Record for the first-ever flight powered entirely by synthetic gasoline—a milestone pointing the way to net-zero mobility across aviation, motorsport, and beyond.
In 2024, Zero Petroleum expanded its global footprint by becoming the Official Partner of Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber, marking Lowe’s return to Formula One through a sustainability lens. That same year, the company debuted its synthetic fuel in Australia at the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival and announced plans to establish a commercial-scale production plant in South Australia by 2026, aiming to produce up to 12 million litres of carbon-neutral fuel annually.
An elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Honorary Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, Lowe now mentors emerging technologists and serves on advisory boards shaping sustainable transport. On stage, he distills three decades at the sharp end of elite engineering into actionable insights on leadership, innovation, and resilience, revealing how moon-shot thinking and disciplined execution can help organisations out-race disruption.
