Motoshige Itoh's Biography

Professor Motoshige Itoh is one of Japan’s leading authorities on international and industrial economics. His research focuses on trade policies, the international trade regime, and the development of foreign direct investment from and into Japan. He has also focused on such issues as Japanese distribution system and small and medium enterprise support policies.

From 2007-09, Itoh served as Dean of the Graduate School of Economics and Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo. He is currently President of the National Institute for Research Advancement, a Japan-based policy research organisation promoting world-wide research exchange in such areas as politics, economics, international issues, social issues, technology, and local government systems.
