Massimo D’Alema's Biography

Massimo D’Alema, former Prime Minister of Italy (1998-2000), is current President of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies and of the Fondazione Italianieuropei. He was a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies until March 2013 and, from January 2010 to March 2013, served as the President of the Parliamentary Commission for the Security of the Republic (COPASIR).

In 2006, after being re-elected to the Lower House, Mr D’Alema was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the second Prodi government. Massimo D’Alema served as Vice President of the Socialist International from 2003 to 2012. He has also served as a member of the European Parliament (2004-06).

Mr D’Alema is also a professional journalist and the author of several books.
