Martine Croxall 's Biography

Martine Croxall FRGS is a commanding and trusted voice in broadcast journalism. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, she has shaped how audiences understood breaking news – from the aftermath of 9/11 to the war in Ukraine. She joined BBC Radio Leicester in 1991, moved to East Midlands Today, and became a familiar face on the BBC News Channel, BBC World News, and Weekend News from 2001.

Croxall gained wide acclaim for her composure during the Paris attacks in November 2015, earning praise from former CBS bureau chief David Henderson for her “level‑headed clarity” during live coverage. In April 2021 she calmly announced the death of HRH Prince Philip across all BBC English-language channels, offering assurance at a time of national mourning.

A geography graduate of the University of Leeds and elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Martine brings spatial and societal context to complex issues. She has been hosting events for the RGS since 2011, and has trained presenter cohorts at the BBC Academy and language services. Her Celebrity Mastermind win in 2022 with Nellie Bly as specialist subject underlines her intellectual curiosity and media-savvy authority.

Off camera, she mentors emerging talent, coaches leaders in executive communication and hosts panels and conferences for international audiences. Known for her engaging delivery, sense of humour, and practical insights, Martine equips audiences with tools to navigate uncertainty, craft authentic narratives, and lead with composure.

Comments & Testimonials

‘At short notice, Martine stepped in to host our hybrid senior leadership conference at the Science Museum in London. The epitome of calm, she was an absolute dream to work with from start to finish. Well-briefed and a great broadcaster, she went with the flow (even when we threw the robotic dog in at the last minute). Martine delivered a flawless performance.’
Balfour Beatty
“Our events need to project rigour, authority, timeliness, but at the same time be engaging and welcoming for very diverse audiences. Martine brings all these things and more to her chairing of panel discussions and talks.”
Royal Geographical Society
“I was struck by the unbiased professionalism of the BBC journalists we worked with in many of the hundreds of events we arranged annually. Among the superstars in this context was Martine Croxall who chaired discussions with superb skill, knowledge, experience and a great sense of humour.”
