Jonathan Overend's Biography
Jonathan Overend is one of the UK’s leading sports broadcasters with a three-decade career interviewing global superstars, commentating on historic moments and presenting from the biggest venues and events in the world.
Best known for his work in tennis, Jonathan was the voice of Andy Murray winning Wimbledon in 2013 on BBC Radio, stopping the traffic with his gripping commentary from the front row of Centre Court. He covered the greatest era in the sport, speaking regularly to Federer, Nadal, Serena and Sharapova, and is currently the lead commentator for Sky Sports.
All all-sports man, Jonathan’s famous versatility has been called upon at five Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup, World Title Boxing fights, the Cricket World Cup, Rugby Rugby World and World Athletics Championships. From his first Olympics in Athens 2004 through to Paris 2024, Jonathan has covered at least twenty different sports!
But many of these sporting travels have been down backstreets of the world and Jonathan has plenty of stories to tell from his international adventures. He’s interviewed Roger Federer in an elevator, Sir Alex Ferguson in a broom cupboard and Michael Schumacher in a runaway taxi! (And perhaps best not to mention the British sports team who changed for a big match in a brothel…) You see, it’s not all glamour!
Away from his live broadcasting, Jonathan is an experieced moderator, host and facilitator. He regularly elevates events with his commanding stage presence, distinguished presentational style and, of course, that unmistakable voice!
He also has a close interest in climate and sustainability and, through his 2021 podcast “Emergency on Planet Sport”, drove an essential conversation with leaders in sport and led to training work with athletes and the annual hosting of The British Association of Sustainable Sport awards.
