Inga Beale's Biography

Dame Inga Beale is an acknowledged business leader in financial services and a popular keynote speaker. Inga was CEO of Lloyd’s of London from 2013 – 2018 and was the first woman to be appointed to this position. With the global insurance market’s unique history running for over 328 years, Inga became a revolutionary milestone within its modernization journey.

Inga’s career started at the Prudential in London in 1982. In the 90’s she moved to work as an underwriter for GE’s insurance division before making her way up to the management team in 2001 working in USA, France and Germany. By 2008 Inga was a management board member of the Zurich Insurance Group in Switzerland, after previously reviving Swiss reinsurer Converium.

In 2013, it was announced that Inga would become the first female CEO of Lloyd’s of London, having led prominent Lloyd’s syndicate Canopius for a couple of years. During her 5 year tenure at Lloyd’s, she took on many of the traditions that had held the organization back. She introduced technology to the market, set up Lloyd’s in new and emerging economies around the world, and challenged the traditional “boys club” culture to make it a much more modern inclusive environment.

A passionate and driven figure within the world of business and economics, she was awarded a Damehood in the Queen’s 2017 New Year Honors for her services to the UK economy. She now has a portfolio of global non-executive director and advisory roles in and outside of the world of insurance.
