David Canning's Biography

Dr. David Canning is Richard Saltonstall Professor of Population Sciences, Deputy Director of the Program on the Global Demography of Aging, and a Professor of Economics and International Health. Dr. Canning has served as a consultant to the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank.

His research focuses on Health to Wealth, the idea that health is a fundemental driver of economic growth, and the demographic dividind, that changes in age structure are key drives of individual behavior and economic activity.

Canning served as associate director of HCPDS from 2008–2017, and was PI on the Welfare Effects of Balancing the Federal Social Security and Health Care Budgets project.
