Camille Cheng's Biography
Camille Cheng, a three-time Olympic swimmer and motivational speaker, inspires audiences worldwide with her dedication to excellence and resilience. She is a co-founder of Hong Kong based mental health charity, Mind the Waves which aims at destigmatising mental wellbeing among the city’s youth. She speaks about mental toughness, overcoming adversity, and achieving peak performance. She is a IOC (International Olympic Committee) Mental Health Ambassador one of twelve globally, representing Asia.
She holds a degree in Psychology from the University of California and a Master’s in Industrial Organisational Psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Born and raised between Hong Kong and Beijing, her passion and commitment for swimming took her to California, where she became a pivotal member of the Cal Bears swim team. Under the guidance of esteemed coaches, Camille honed her skills and set multiple records, showcasing her prowess in freestyle swimming. From there, she rose through the ranks to become one of Hong Kong’s leading swimmers.
Over her 20+ year career in swimming, Cheng has competed in major international tournaments, including competing in three Olympics – 2016, 2020(1) and 2024. In addition to her Olympic appearances, Camille has competed in numerous Asian Games (7x medalist) and World Championships, consistently demonstrating her elite performance level.
Camille has also been listed amongst the ‘Prestige 40 Under 40’ (2023) and ‘Prestige Women of Power’ (2023).
She is a passionate advocate for mental health and the importance of psychological resilience in and beyond sports. She regularly speaks at conferences, schools, and corporate events, sharing her insights on how to cultivate a champion’s mindset. Her motivational talks emphasize the significance of tapping into the power of the mind, on developing perseverant and resilient muscles, and strategies to overcome challenges, drawing from her personal experiences as an elite athlete. She doesn’t shy away from addressing the mental side of performance – offering personal stories, discussing key mental skills and sharing practical tools that tap into the power of the mind.
