Dan Snow Keynote Speaker

Dan Snow MBE is a BAFTA award winning historian, broadcaster and television presenter. Dan makes programmes around the world on a range of historical topics, from the abandoned Viking churches of Greenland to war damaged sites of Timbuktu. An award-winning broadcaster, he has built a reputation for combining charismatic delivery with intellectual substance.

After graduating from Oxford University with a double first, Dan began presenting military history programmes with his father, the veteran broadcaster Peter Snow. Their series, Battlefield Britain (2004), won a BAFTA award, and told the story of eight decisive clashes in British history, from Boudicca to the Battle of Britain. The follow-up series, which examined eight key military encounters of the 20th century including the battle of Stalingrad and the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, was televised in the summer of 2007.

Dan has worked on numerous public occasions for BBC Events such as the 200th Anniversary of Battle of Trafalgar, the 90th anniversary of the RAF and the commemorations to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of World War One. He has a regular slot on the One Show on BBC1, where he explores great stories from British history.

His other TV series include Britain’s Lost World (2008), in which he explored the islands of St Kilda, Empire of the Seas: How the Royal Navy Made the Modern World (2010), and Filthy Cities, which was broadcast in 2011. His first solo book, Death or Victory – an account of the fall of Quebec in 1759 – was published in September 2009. An accompanying television programme was broadcast by BBC2 in March 2010, produced by Dan’s production company, Ballista.

He regularly works with the live events team at the BBC presenting national commemorative events, such as the 75^th anniversary of D-Day in 2019. He is the host of one of the world’s biggest history podcast, Dan Snow’s History Hit, which is downloaded over one million times per week. In 2018 he published the best-selling ‘On This Day in History.’ That year he founded and is the Creative Director of History Hit TV, a digital history channel described by the Forbes as ‘The Netflix of History.’ In early 2022 Dan took part in the expedition to find Shackleton’s shipwreck Endurance, which was discovered 10,000 feet below the ice of the Weddell Sea in Antarctica.
