Rachel Adams's Biography

Rachel Adams is one of the world’s foremost independent voices on artificial intelligence, governance and global inequality. She is Executive Director and Research Professor at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, University of Cambridge, and Founder and CEO of the Global Centre on AI Governance, an Africa-based think tank shaping equitable and inclusive approaches to AI governance. She is also the founder of the African Observatory on Responsible AI, and the world’s largest study on responsible AI, the Global Index on Responsible AI.

Rachel works at the intersection of AI, geopolitics, development and human rights. Her expertise has been built at the highest levels of international policy. She advises governments, international organisations and policy-makers around the world on how to govern AI in the public interest, and has served on expert committees and advisory bodies for WEF, UNESCO, the United Nations, the Gates Foundation and the Global Partnership on AI. She also co-led the drafting of the African Union Commission’s Continental AI Strategy.

Her latest book, The New Empire of AI: The Future of Global Inequality, examines how AI is transforming global power and why AI must be governed with justice, inclusion and accountability at its centre. Rachel is known for translating complex technological and geopolitical developments into clear, compelling insights for leaders navigating rapid change.
