Sue Turner's Biography
Sue Turner OBE is a globally recognised authority on AI governance and ethics who has ranked among the world’s Top 100 Women in AI Ethics. She transforms how organisations deploy AI, showing them how to take practical action with intelligent governance.
Among the first cohort globally to achieve accreditation in the Independent Audit of AI systems, Sue possesses a rare combination: legal expertise (Law degree), technical depth (MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, coding in Python, building ML models) and proven executive leadership as a former CEO. This unique trifecta enables her to translate complex AI concepts into actionable frameworks that boards and leadership teams can immediately implement.
Sue’s keynotes deliver what senior audiences need most:
- clarity on AI’s strategic implications
- actions that give confidence to lead in an AI-transformed landscape
- and pragmatic governance frameworks.
In 2020, Sue founded AI Governance Limited, advising multinational corporations, small-medium sized businesses and not-for-profits on adopting AI whilst navigating the regulatory and ethical complexities. Her proprietary frameworks – including the “Eight Stages of Good AI Governance” – are used by organisations globally.
Beyond her consultancy, Sue is Professor in Practice for AI and Technologies at the University of Bristol Business School and serves as Board Chair and Non-Executive Director for purpose-driven businesses in regulated industries. She has been a mentor on the Alan Turing Institute’s Skills Policy Awards and is a founder member of the United Nations AI Skills Coalition. Her entrepreneurial and non-profit leadership background includes delivering transformational organisational growth and raising £27 million in charitable funding. Her commitment social impact was recognised with an OBE in 2021 for Services to Social Justice.
Sue’s presentations cut through the AI hype to deliver strategic insights that help leaders identify opportunities, mitigate enterprise-level risks, build stakeholder trust and unlock competitive advantage, all while maintaining ethical integrity and regulatory compliance.
