Richard David Hames is a philosopher-activist, author, mentor and strategic foresight practitioner widely regarded as a leading futurist. Working at the interface between business, politics and society, he helps leaders navigate dynamically complex environments and design responses that are both humane and effective. Forbes Asia has described him as one of the smartest people on the planet.

An Australian citizen educated in the UK and Europe and based in Thailand, Richard unites deep scholarship with senior leadership experience. He holds doctoral degrees in music, medicine and computer science and is a Fellow of the World Academy of Art & Science (elected 2011), recognised with multiple international awards for his academic and professional contributions. Founder of the Centre for the Future and Chairman of the Asian Foresight Institute in Bangkok, he also advises the Sustainable Technology Center in Singapore and is Director of Strategy for MHealth (UK).

Richard’s career spans medicine, computer science, academia, the arts and corporate leadership, including leading the turnaround of AMI into one of Europe’s most dynamic media corporations and building strategy ventures such as Global Business Network (Australia) and The Hames Group. Best known for pioneering Deep Design – a regenerative approach to second- and third-order change – he has created influential methodologies including Transformational Narrative, Systemic Acupuncture and Strategic Navigation, and has advised heads of state, cabinet ministers, entrepreneurs and CEOs worldwide. With a proven record of anticipating major global disruptions and a body of work that includes The Management Myth, The Five Literacies of Global Leadership, Teaching Silicon How to Feel and a series of books on societal transformation, he equips organisations to rethink 250 years of industrial economism and to design whole-system solutions fit for an increasingly turbulent world.
