Fei-Fei Li's Biography

Fei-Fei Li is a pioneering computer scientist and the Sequoia Capital Professor of Computer Science at Stanford, and Founding Co-Director of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI. In 2025 she was named a laureate of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering, recognising seminal contributions to modern machine learning; in 2024 she shared the VinFuture Grand Prize for transformational advances in deep learning.

Li is widely known for creating ImageNet, the large-scale dataset and challenge that unlocked today’s breakthroughs in computer vision and multimodal AI. She led Stanford’s AI Lab (2013–2018) and, on academic sabbatical, served as Vice President at Google and Chief Scientist of AI/ML at Google Cloud (2017–2018). Her service includes Twitter’s board (2020–2022) and membership of the U.S. National Academies of Engineering and Medicine and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

In 2024, Li co-founded World Labs to build “spatial intelligence” systems—Large World Models that perceive, reason and act in 3D—backed by $230m from leading investors. She continues her Stanford role while guiding the company’s research horizon and policy engagement, including appointments to international scientific bodies. In 2025, Yale University awarded her an honorary Doctor of Engineering & Technology.

An acclaimed keynote, Li brings clarity, balance and urgency to the global AI conversation. She is the author of The Worlds I See (Flatiron/Macmillan, 2023)—a Financial Times Best Book of 2023 and one of Barack Obama’s recommended reads on AI—blending her immigrant journey with a lucid tour of the field’s evolution. She equips leaders and teams to create value responsibly, build trustworthy systems, and navigate risk with confidence.
